On December 17th, at 11:44 pm, the Lakeland Police Department responded to New Tampa Highway at Airport Road in reference to a pedestrian that had been hit. Officers located a deceased female lying on the pavement in the middle of the roadway. There was witness at the scene who stated that he could provide the current location of the vehicle that hit the pedestrian.

The investigation revealed that a 2006 Freightliner Semi was traveling west bound on New Tampa Hwy in the west bound lanes of travel. While entering the intersection with Airport Road, the semi-truck driver felt that he impacted something. After impact the driver pulled over and observed minor damage to the front of his semi-truck, however he could not determine what had caused the damage and continued traveling west bound to complete his delivery.

The semi-truck and the driver were located at 7105 New Tampa Hwy where he was making his delivery. The driver of the semi-truck is Ferdinand Senatus, 57 years of age from Lakeland. Senatus was interviewed and released from the scene pending further investigation. No charges have been filed at this time.

The deceased has been identified as Tina H. Marshall, 48 years old, Lakeland, Fla.

The roadway was shut down during the investigation for approximately 4 hours.

 Members of the Traffic unit responded to process the scene for follow-up investigation and the other necessary investigative procedures. 

 


On April 24th, at 10:45 a.m., the Lakeland Police Department responded to the scene of an airplane incident on runway 9L during the Sun n’ Fun International Fly-In. A 19991 Glasair II RG had a hard landing coming in from the east on runway 9L and the nose gear collapsed. The plane skidded off the runway into the grass. The pilot and passenger were not injured.

 

The runway was closed down for approximately 30 minutes as emergency personnel responded to the scene and moved the airplane to a secure location. FAA personnel responded to the scene for a preliminary investigation.

 

The pilot has been identified as Robert G. Wyber, 72 years of age, 41 Eagan Drive, Palm Coast, Florida. There is no contact number for Mr. Wyber and he is not available for comments.

 

The passenger has been identified as Douglas Shinn, 53 years of age, 2806 S. Peninsula Drive, Daytona, Florida.  Mr. Shinn is not available for comments.


On October 28, 2014 at 2:07 a.m., the Lakeland Police Department responded to 1843 Crystal Lake Drive in reference to a single car accident. The vehicle was on the south side of the roadway facing west bound and it had impacted a Lakeland Electric power pole.

 

The preliminary investigation indicates that the vehicle was traveling east bound on N. Crystal Lake Drive. The vehicle then crossed over US Hwy 98 South at what appears to be a high rate of speed and then crossed over the CSX railroad crossing. Upon crossing the railroad tracks, the vehicle went airborne and then impacted the pavement. The vehicle then left the roadway entering a parking lot located at 1831 N. Crystal Lake Drive and continued east bound until it hit the traffic power pole located on the south side of N. Crystal Lake Drive.

 

The passenger in the vehicle was deceased and the driver was transported to the Lakeland Regional Medical Center with life threatening injuries.  The driver had a seat belt on and it is unknown at this time if the passenger had one on. The roadway was shut down for approximately 4 hours as the Lakeland Police Department worked the crash. This investigation is ongoing.

On October 9th, at 9:50 a.m., the Lakeland Police Department responded to Sikes Blvd, 80’ south of Lime Street in reference to a head-on crash. The at fault driver, Kenneth Edward Davis, 82 years of age, was driving a 2009 Honda, 4 door, south bound on Sikes in the north bound lane. The driver of the other vehicle, Jeffery L. Hardin, 54 years old, was driving a 2010Toyota, 4dr, and heading north bound on Sikes. Hardin attempted to avoid hitting the other vehicle but was unable to do so. The roadway was blocked for 1 ½ hours.

 

Each driver had a seat belt on at the time of the accident. Both drivers were transported to the Lakeland Regional Medical Center for non-life threatening injuries. Davis was cited for driving on the wrong side of the roadway.
