Two Fatalities in Memorial Boulevard Accident

The Lakeland Police department responded to a traffic accident with multiple injuries and two fatalities on August 7, 2016 at approximately 12:18 p.m. According to reports, Alexas A. Moore, age 20, was traveling westbound on US 92 West with passenger Armani T. Evans, age 22, in a 2000 Chevrolet Cavalier. At the same time a 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee, driven by Charles R. Harrelson, age 68, was traveling eastbound with two passengers; Rita E. Harrelson, age 67 and Blannie Denmark age 86. As the vehicles were approaching each other, the Chevrolet left its lane of travel, crossed over the raised concrete median and into the path of the Jeep. The Jeep impacted passenger side of the Chevrolet causing the car to flip and both the driver and passenger were ejected.

Alexas A. Moore, driver of the Chevrolet and Blannie Denmark, female rear passenger in the Jeep, were pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel. Armani Evans, Rita E. Harrelson and Charles Harrelson were all transported to Lakeland Regional Health as trauma alerts. Next of kin has been notified.

The roadway was closed for approximately at five and a half hours. At this time, no charges have been filed and the case is currently under investigation by the Traffic Homicide unit.

Lakeland Police Investigate Triple Traffic Fatality

UPDATE:  July 10, 2016, 11:00 AM. 

The rear passenger of the blue Nissan has been identified as Brittany Lewis, age 25, of 1146 S. Nokomis Avenue, Lakeland, FL.  Ms. Lewis died as a result of injuries sustained in the collision at Lakeland Regional Hospital at approximately 1:31 am on July 10, 2016.  Next of kin has been notified.

Driver of the other vehicle, Michael J. Marrero is reported to be in stable condition at this time.  

Investigators have stated that speed was a factor of this crash.  At this time Marrero has charges pending the completion of this investigation.   

DATE:  JULY 9, 2016

LOCATION:  Near the Intersection of Hwy 98 N & Plaza Drive

Lakeland Police responded to a traffic crash at approximately 11:36 pm near the intersection of Hwy 98 North and Plaza Drive.   The investigation indicated that a blue Nissan driven by Christopher L. Stewart (515 Bon Air Street, #146, age 22) was traveling north on N. Rd. 98. An orange Volkswagon driven by Michael J. Marrero (5133 Rollinglen Loop E, Lakeland, age 26) was traveling south on N. Rd. 98. At some point, the orange Volkswagon lost control and crossed over into the north bound lanes and struck the front of the blue Nissan. The Nissan ran off the roadway to the right and rolled over. The Volkswagon came to final rest facing south in the north bound lanes. Both the driver, Christopher Stewart, and the passenger, Kathrin R. Pitock (515 Bon Air Street, #157, age 22) in the blue Nissan were declared deceased on scene.

The rear passenger of the Nissan later expired at Lakeland Regional Hospital at 0131hrs. This passenger has not yet been positively identified.

Next of kin of Christopher Stewart and Kathrin Pitock has been notified.  This release will be updated when the name of the third passenger of the Nissan has been identified and next of kin notified.

Michael J. Marrero, the driver of the Volkswagon, was transported to Lakeland Regional Hospital  for treatment.  His condition at this time is unknown.

On December 17th, at 11:44 pm, the Lakeland Police Department responded to New Tampa Highway at Airport Road in reference to a pedestrian that had been hit. Officers located a deceased female lying on the pavement in the middle of the roadway. There was witness at the scene who stated that he could provide the current location of the vehicle that hit the pedestrian.

The investigation revealed that a 2006 Freightliner Semi was traveling west bound on New Tampa Hwy in the west bound lanes of travel. While entering the intersection with Airport Road, the semi-truck driver felt that he impacted something. After impact the driver pulled over and observed minor damage to the front of his semi-truck, however he could not determine what had caused the damage and continued traveling west bound to complete his delivery.

The semi-truck and the driver were located at 7105 New Tampa Hwy where he was making his delivery. The driver of the semi-truck is Ferdinand Senatus, 57 years of age from Lakeland. Senatus was interviewed and released from the scene pending further investigation. No charges have been filed at this time.

The deceased has been identified as Tina H. Marshall, 48 years old, Lakeland, Fla.

The roadway was shut down during the investigation for approximately 4 hours.

 Members of the Traffic unit responded to process the scene for follow-up investigation and the other necessary investigative procedures. 

 


On April 24th, at 10:45 a.m., the Lakeland Police Department responded to the scene of an airplane incident on runway 9L during the Sun n’ Fun International Fly-In. A 19991 Glasair II RG had a hard landing coming in from the east on runway 9L and the nose gear collapsed. The plane skidded off the runway into the grass. The pilot and passenger were not injured.

 

The runway was closed down for approximately 30 minutes as emergency personnel responded to the scene and moved the airplane to a secure location. FAA personnel responded to the scene for a preliminary investigation.

 

The pilot has been identified as Robert G. Wyber, 72 years of age, 41 Eagan Drive, Palm Coast, Florida. There is no contact number for Mr. Wyber and he is not available for comments.

 

The passenger has been identified as Douglas Shinn, 53 years of age, 2806 S. Peninsula Drive, Daytona, Florida.  Mr. Shinn is not available for comments.
