Special Operations Section Main Page

The Special Operations Section is a section within the Uniform Patrol Division 2 under the command of Captain Tom Day. The Special Operations Section Officer in Charge (OIC) is Lieutenant Mike Link. Both have over twenty years of service to LPD and have served in many areas of the department.

The Special Operations Section (SOS) has many different components, all of which are specialties within the department. Some of the specialties are Traffic, Aviation, SWAT, and the Dive Team. All of these diiferent units spend many hours training in their expertise. Whether it is SWAT or DUI Enforcement, all of these officers and supervisors in this section have built reputations for being the best. Some have been recognized by the courts in Polk County as experts in their specific field, while others travel the country as adjunct professors of different organizations teaching in their respective specialty.

The SWAT Team and K-9 Unit have been recognized nationally numerous times for being the top of class when it comes to competitions and field trials. Over the years, the department has developed the respect of large and small agencies and many have modeled some of their policies and procedures after LPD.
