Rescue Vehicle
This is one of LPD's newest vehicles and was added to the fleet in April 2004.

Rescue Vehicle

This RESCUE VEHICLE was purchased from military surplus for $1500. An additional $1000 was spent on paint and decals and it was placed in-service in April 2004. The M577 Armored Personnel Carrier is a forward command vehicle as well. The purchase price for a brand new one is about $300,000. LPD's SWAT team will use this on high risk search warrants and in hostage and officer rescues where there is an active shooter involved. The vehicle will give the department another tool to keep the citizens of Lakeland safe and can provide rolling cover for our SWAT members.

The Motor Unit at LPD consists of six officers and one sergeant. They are primarily responsible for traffic enforcement as they are able to conduct enforcement in certain areas of the city where patrol vehicles can not work as easily due to the size difference. The also participate in special functions like Sun-n-Fun where they have many different responsiblities other than traffic.
Air One in flight
Air One patrolling the City of Lakeland one afternoon.

Air One works predominantly evening hours but, also works on many other projects that make its hours flexible. The Aviation Unit with Air One does everything from aerial surveilance, to traffic enforcement, to patrolling the City of Lakeland. Air One is a force multiplier when it is out flying and from an aerial platform above, the vantage point for pursuits is excellent.
New K-9 Unit for two dogs
The newest addition to the fleet of K-9 Vehicles at LPD.

The newest vehicle in the K-9 Unit is a Ford Expedition. The particular vehicle carries two K-9's. A chocolate lab known as "Buster the Bomb Dog" by many and a German Shepard named "Kye." The handler for both is Officer Jose Bosque. This vehicle is designed with two cages and plenty of room for needed equipment.
FEMA SITE SECURITY
airport fema ops 3
Lakeland Airport Runway 5 with several hundred trucks full of supplies during the recent state and federal hurricane relief efforts.
During this past hurricane season, the Lakeland Linder Regional Airport became a Logistical Staging Area (LSA) for the State of Florida and a Federal Commodity Receiving Station (FCRS) for FEMA. From August to October, the airport was the hub of many operations for the entire state. For instance, during one 10 day period, over 1400 truckloads of food, water, ice, and MRE's were received and distributed to other parts of the state. Likewise, at one point there were close to 700 generators of all types that were brought back to the airport for processing.

While all of this was going on, LPD provided site security on the perimeter and on the active runway/taxiways. During the operation, there were several millions dollars worth of assets on property that LPD was responsible for securing. This mission was a joint project by many local, state, and federal agencies. Kudos to all involved as no major incidents were reported.
