All City of Lakeland positions may require participation in one or more testing processes, which may include written, oral, performance-based, computerized, interview, or other assessments, or any combination thereof. Candidates selected to participate in testing will be notified via email or telephone. Applicants are encouraged to monitor their email and voicemail regularly, including spam or junk folders. Testing dates, times, and locations will be announced as applicable.
All positions with the City of Lakeland are contingent upon the successful completion of a criminal background check. Positions that require a high school diploma or higher are also subject to verification of educational credentials. Offers of employment are conditional, and no candidate may begin employment until all required background and educational checks have been satisfactorily completed. Depending on the position, additional pre-employment requirements may apply, including but not limited to motor vehicle record checks, physical examinations, or other job-related evaluations.
The City of Lakeland is a drug-free workplace. Certain positions, as defined by Florida Statute, are designated as mandatory tested positions and are subject to pre-employment and random drug testing. Additionally, all City of Lakeland employees are subject to reasonable suspicion drug testing. As a condition of employment, candidates must successfully pass a pre-employment drug test in accordance with Florida Statute 440.102.
