Current Projects

834-roadThe Public Works Construction & Maintenance Division is continually looking for ways to keep Lakeland citizens better informed about road, sidewalk, lake, stormwater, drainage, and other infrastructure improvements. The latest tool is a telephone line devoted to giving you the latest project information. The ROAD phone (834-ROAD) is updated at least weekly and has information regarding when, where, what, and for how long a project will take place. The message includes suggestions for alternate routes when they are suggested, and notifies you when roads will be closed totally.

Please check this phone message frequently and encourage your family and neighbors to do the same.

Lake Beulah Trail

As construction continues on Lake Beulah Trail project, motorist should be aware that construction activities will be present around the entire perimeter of Lake Beulah. Although no road closures are planned, minor delays are possible due to equipment and construction activities.

The Florida Department of Transportation and Lakeland Community Redevelopment Agency (LCRA) are funding the Lake Beulah Trail in order to beautify this gateway into Lakeland and the surrounding neighborhoods and to improve conditions for bicyclists, pedestrians and transit patrons.  Through this project, the existing five-foot wide concrete sidewalk will be replaced with an eight- to ten-foot wide asphalt multi-use trail.  This project also includes the installation of decorative lighting along the trail, landscaping and transit stop improvements including the construction of a new transit shelter at the Hartsell Avenue intersection.

Construction is expected to be completed in Spring 2014.  Periodic lane closures are possible throughout the duration of this project.  Motorists are asked to use caution and watch for construction workers within the project area.

Shore Acres Storm Drain Construction

Beginning Monday, December 2nd City of Lakeland crews will be constructing a new storm drain system in the Shore Acres neighborhood. The construction will primarily be contained to Interlachen Parkway; however, Main Street, Elm Road, and Fern Road will be affected with construction activities and temporary road closures.  Minor delays can be expected.   This work will last approximately 3 months weather permitting.

West Highland Street Sidewalk Project

The sidewalk construction along West Highland Street from Southern Avenue to Pinewood, will begin in January 2014, and is scheduled to be complete in April. Some lane closures while project in process is expected.

New Jersey Road Drainage

Drainage improvements have begun on New Jersey Road between Edgewood Drive and Crystal Lake Drive. The red light at the intersection of New Jersey Road & Sylvester Road will be placed in “all red” flash mode and should be treated as a three way stop. Minor delays and periodic lane closures can be expected. Your patience is greatly appreciated.
