Current Projects

834-roadThe Public Works Construction & Maintenance Division is continually looking for ways to keep Lakeland citizens better informed about road, sidewalk, lake, stormwater, drainage, and other infrastructure improvements. The latest tool is a telephone line devoted to giving you the latest project information. The ROAD phone (834-ROAD) is updated at least weekly and has information regarding when, where, what, and for how long a project will take place. The message includes suggestions for alternate routes when they are suggested, and notifies you when roads will be closed totally.

Please check this phone message frequently and encourage your family and neighbors to do the same.

Schedule Week of May 21, 2012

Let them work – let them live.  The City of Lakeland Public Works Construction & Maintenance Division wants you to be safe.  Speeding through construction and work zones puts you and the workers at risk.  Please slow down.  The workers might be your family, friends, or neighbors.

Beginning Monday, May 14th, city crews will install new handicap ramps at Lake Hollingsworth Drive and Ingraham Avenue. The intersection will be converted to a three way stop. Pedestrians and bicyclists will be temporarily rerouted during construction.

Installation of a new storm system along the west side of Dixie Place from Lake Bonny to Fern Road will begin the first week of May at East Lake Bonnie Drive and Dixie Place. Every effort will be made to maintain access to all homes.  You can expect road closures and minor delays to occur during the construction. The project will last approximately three months.

Contractors working for the City of Lakeland are resurfacing the following roads:   N Florence Avenue from 2nd to 4th; Virginia Avenue from 3rd St to 5th St; 4th St.  Detours will be clearly marked and city personnel will be on site to assist with any concerns.

City crews are installing new sidewalk on Hillsboro Street from Polk Avenue to South Florida Avenue. Minor delays can be expected.

Tuesday, May 29, 2012, the City of Lakeland Public Works Construction and Maintenance Division will begin replacing failed storm pipe on Lake Hollingsworth Drive at Fairhaven Drive.  Lake Hollingsworth Drive will be closed to through traffic from Cleveland Heights Blvd. to Crystal Lake Drive for approximately 2 days while construction is underway.  Residents will have access to their property at all times.  Detours will be clearly marked and motorists are encouraged to use alternate routes whenever possible
