Curtis Porterfield graduated from USF with a B.S. in Environmental Science and Policy. He worked for FDEP for several years post-graduation and with Polk County Natural Resources for several years after that. He currently manages the Lakes and Stormwater Program for the City of Lakeland. Curtis specializes in lakes management, storm sewer infrastructure management, and freshwater law and policy.
Cole Edwards was born and raised from Arcadia, FL and graduated from Florida Gulf Coast University with his AA in Civil Engineering and also from the University of South Florida with his B.S. in Civil Engineering. He was a registered intern with the State of Florida Board of Professional Engineers, worked for Kennedy, Lynch & Assoc., James Bushouse, Inc. and currently is the Engineering Technician for the City of Lakeland, Lakes and Stormwater Division.
Sandra George has been a resident of Lakeland since 1997. Her educational background includes a degree in Environmental Science Technology from Hillsborough Community College. She completed additional courses at Polk State College. From there, she has continued her educational career at the University of South Florida in the Environmental Science and Policy program. On the weekends you will find her boating, fishing, kayaking, or mountain bike trail riding. Sandra is currently the Lakes Management Biologist for the City of Lakeland’s Lakes and Stormwater Division.
Cindy Hill is the Lakes Program Coordinator for the City of Lakeland’s Lakes and Stormwater division. Cindy is a fourth generation Lakeland resident where she has earned an AS degree in Horticulture Technology from Polk State College, a BS in Business Administration, Marketing Management, from Florida Southern College and a Masters in Public Administration, Environmental Management from Troy University. Prior to coming to the City, she was the owner of a wetland mitigation business that created, restored, and enhanced a wide variety of ecosystems within central Florida.
Laurie Smith is the Senior Environmental Specialist for the City of Lakeland’s Lakes and Stormwater Division. She holds a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Biology from SCSU and a Master’s Degree in Environmental Science from the University of New Haven. She has extensive experience in environmental regulatory compliance, and is currently responsible for coordinating and administering the City’s Stormwater NPDES permit and other programs that involve improving stormwater management and lake quality.
Stephanie Witherspoon is originally from Pensacola, FL and graduated from the University of West Florida with a B.S. in Marine Biology. She is a volunteer biologist at the Florida Aquarium. Her interests include freshwater biology, wildlife conservation, wetlands ecology, aquatic botany and marine invertebrate zoology. Stephanie is currently the Environmental Technician II for the City of Lakeland.
