The 1988 Solid Waste Management Act mandated a 30% reduction in the municipal solid waste going to the landfill. To complete this goal, a majority of glass, aluminum, newspaper and plastic must be offered to recycling in each County. The municipalities within the counties are encouraged to participate with the collection and implementation of these programs. Lakeland has established an Office of Recycling and has a Recycling Coordinator to work closely with the County to implement these program in the City.
Recycling uses only a small

amount of space and requires only a few seconds a day. An area in the garage, a corner in the kitchen or a storage closet are convenient places to locate your container. If you have children at home, recycling can become their special project.
Our goal is 100% participation! So we've made it as easy as possible for you. Request a recycling container (the nifty blue bin)! We'll pick up the recyclable material at your curb each week and we'll even take care of the sorting process. Please place your full container at the curb by 6 a.m. on your collection day. Your collection day will be provided when your blue bin is delivered. Please call (863) 834-8773 and we'll see that you get a magnet with this information!
Thanks for being an important part of this program!
