The new wheeled recycling containers are easy to maneuver, feature tight fitting lids and do not take up much additional floor space when compared to your current "Blue Bin."  Remember - the more you recycle, the less garbage output which could lead to a smaller garbage container and a lower monthly garbage fee.  

The City will offer residents the ability to "swap out" their current EZCan garbage container for a smaller EZCan at no cost during the first 60 days of automated recycling service.  

The City of Lakeland has always had a commitment to being a responsible partner in preserving our environment.  Since 1999 we have maintained a successful curbside recycling program within the City limits of Lakeland.  With new technologies and opportunities available we can now accept more recycled materials.

In December 2012, the City of Lakeland implemented a single-stream recycling program.  Single stream recycling refers to a system in which all paper fibers, plastics, metals and other containers are mixed in a collection truck instead of being sorted at the curb by a solid waste employee.  Your collection method remains the same but now you will be able to recycle so much more!

Items you are now able to recycle:  Phone Books, Small Appliances, Office Papers, Household Pots & Pans, All Glass Materials, Steel and Aluminum Cans, Plastics 1-7, Magazines & Newspapers, Cereal and Food Boxes, Paper Juice Boxes, Paper Back Books, Empty Aerosol Cans, Aluminum Foil, Styrofoam, Pie Pans, and shredded paper provided it is in cardboard boxes or paper bags (no plastic).

The 1988 Solid Waste Management Act mandated a 30% reduction in the municipal solid waste going to the landfill. To complete this goal, a majority of glass, aluminum, newspaper and plastic must be offered to recycling in each County. The municipalities within the counties are encouraged to participate with the collection and implementation of these programs. Lakeland has established an Office of Recycling and has a Recycling Coordinator to work closely with the County to implement these program in the City.

Recycling uses only a small amount of space and requires only a few seconds a day. An area in the garage, a corner in the kitchen or a storage closet are convenient places to locate your container. If you have children at home, recycling can become their special project.

Our goal is 100% participation! So we've made it as easy as possible for you. Request a recycling container (the nifty blue bin)!  We'll pick up the recyclable material at your curb each week and we'll even take care of the sorting process.  Please place your full container at the curb by 6 a.m. on your collection day. Your collection day will be provided when your blue bin is delivered.  Please call (863) 834-8773 and we'll see that you get a blue bin!
