The Construction & Maintenance Division is responsible for:

374 CENTERLINE MILES OF PAVED STREETS
In 2005 division crews completed 556,000 feet of curb edging, 68,885 square feet of asphalt repair, filled 396 potholes, put down 16,671 feet of pavement marking, and painted 13,031 feet of crosswalks.
Additionally they maintained 16.85 centerline miles of brick streets; 1.4 centerline miles of unpaved streets; 2.70 centerline miles of airport roads; 2.2 centerline miles of park roads; and 6.3 centerline miles of cemetery roads. The total responsibility of the division is 741.4 lane miles of roadway.

14.5 CENTERLINE MILES OF PAVED ALLEYS and 10.3 CENTERLINE MILES OF UNPAVED ALLEYS
In 2005 City of Lakeland crews cleaned and trimmed 152,500 square yards in alleys.

60 MILES OF DITCHES
In fiscal year 2005 each ditch was sprayed for excess vegetation and mowed approximately 6 times. Crews completed 8,000 square yards of ditch cleaning, 920,557 square yards of ditch mowing, and 993,004 square yards of ditch spraying.

15 LAKES
In fiscal year 2005 each lake shore was sprayed for excess vegetation and mowed approximately 6 times. The lakes and lakeshores are cleaned as necessary to remove trash, etc. Crews completed 18,860 square yards of lake cleaning, 492,960 square yards of lake spraying, and 80,635 square yards of lakeshore mowing.

55 RETENTION PONDS
In fiscal year 2005 each retention pond was sprayed for excess vegetation and mowed approximately 6 times. The trash around the edges of the ponds is cleaned as needed. In 2005 crews mowed 356,827 square yards of retention pond areas and sprayed 500,714 square yards.

7592 CATCH BASINS AND INLETS
In fiscal year 2005, inlets were checked and cleaned 11,000 times.

232 MILES STORM PIPE AND UNDERDRAIN
Storm pipes are checked regularly for flow and cleaned as needed. Before each forecasted storm event City crews check major storm line systems for proper operations. In fiscal year 2005 crews cleaned more than 45,175 feet of storm pipe.

STREET SWEEPERS SWEEP 12,000 SWEEPER MILES ANNUALLY -- more during leaf season.
Sweepers make a circuit of the city approximately every 4 – 5 weeks. They sweep all curbed city-maintained streets.

445 LANE MILES OF CURBS
1728 feet of curb was repaired or replaced in 2005. The city repairs or replaces curb that is hazardous.

558,962 SQUARE FEET STREETSCAPE
In 2005 the “downtown” crew cleaned and herbicided 1.4 million square feet of streetscape area. They repair or replace bricks and pavers as needed, and repair damaged tree boxes.

Maintenance crews trimmed 147,150 feet of right of way, mowed 14,000 square yards, and sprayed 928,427 square yards with herbicide.

255 MILES OF SIDEWALK
In fiscal year 2005 concrete crews repaired or installed 8,625 feet of sidewalk.
