| The Public Works Department celebrated the American Public Works Association (APWA) National Public Works Week on Friday, May 1, 2009 in Munn Park along with the First Friday event. Our Divisions all took part with displays, games, demonstrations and give-a-ways. The Director's Office staff offered registration for prizes and questions concerning the Department, Facilities Maintenance Division supplied snow cones and showed cost saving plumbing fixtures and light bulbs, Construction & Maintenance demonstrated a variety of their vehicles and presented facts about the Citys infrastructure, Solid Waste was on hand with their container displays and discussed disposal of solid waste and collection of recycling material, Fleet Maintenance group displayed photos and a slideshow of their operation, Traffic Operations had a variety of signs on hand and were fitting children for bicycle helmets, Parking Systems educated the public on parking downtown, Engineering Division encouraged participation with their Jeopardy game display, and the Lakes & Stormwater featured their newest Dont Feed the Algae; a fertilizer, grass clippings, and yard debris awareness campaign.
