LAKELAND, FL (February 26, 2020) | The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) will be constructing improvements at the Florida Avenue and Edgewood Drive intersection starting Monday, March 9^th.  FDOT is estimating that this construction project will be completed by late May 2020.  The project is being done to improve pedestrian safety by reducing crossing distances and reducing the speed of turning vehicles.

LAKELAND, FL (February 25, 2020) | The 2020 Tropical Cyclone Operations and Research Forum also known as the 74th Interdepartmental Hurricane Conference is taking place today (Tuesday, February 25^th) and tomorrow at Lakeland Linder International Airport. 

LAKELAND, FL (February 24, 2020) | The official opening of Spring Training started with a home game as our very own Detroit Tigers played host to the Philadelphia Phillies.  This is the 84th Opening Day of Spring Training in Lakeland and we are very proud to announce that all of these opening days have been with the same Major League Baseball Team – 84 years with the Detroit Tigers. 

LAKELAND, FL (February 24, 2020) – Starting on Monday, March 2^nd, City of Lakeland Wastewater Collection crews will begin constructing a sewer line extension across the intersection of North Chestnut Road and Chestnut Woods Drive. At the same time of this project Water Distribution will be working in conjunction with Waste Water Collection to relocate a water main.  

BARTOW, FL (February 18, 2020) | The Florida Department of Transportation plans to activate the newly installed High-Intensity Activated CrossWalK Signals (HAWKS) Monday, February 24. The signals are designed to make crossing Memorial Boulevard safer and easier for pedestrians in one of the highest crash areas in Polk County.

LAKELAND, FL (February 19, 2020) | Construction on the West Lake Parker multi-use path will be put on hold while the Detroit Tigers Spring Training is taking place. Construction will be suspended at close of business on Thursday, February 20^th and work will resume on Monday, March 30^th. 

LAKELAND, FL (February 18, 2020) | Around 8 a.m. this morning  employees at the eLibrary located in the Lake Miriam Square Shopping Center (4740 Florida Avenue South) were notified that a neighboring business had experienced a gas leak.  Employees on hand in preparation for the opening of the eLibrary could detect a faint smell of gas in the eLibrary space.  It was decided to close the location for the day so the space could be properly ventilated.  A sign has been posted on the door of the eLibrary notifying patrons that the library will be closed to today and will reopen tomorrow, February 19^th at 9 a.m.

LAKELAND, FL (February 13, 2020) | The Agenda at-a-Glance includes highlights for the upcoming February 17th City Commission Meeting Agenda. The Lakeland City Commission will discuss agenda items in detail at the Agenda Study session on Friday, February 14^th starting at 8:30 a.m.  The public can watch Agenda Study Sessions, City Commission Meetings as well as Committee Meetings live on Spectrum 643, FiOS 43 and streamed on LakelandGov TV. 

On February 10, 2020, at approximately 12:14 p.m., officers responded to a traffic crash involving a pedestrian at 4000 Lakeland Highlands Road, near the Polk Parkway. According to reports, just prior to the crash, a 2006 Ford F-150 was traveling northbound on Lakeland Highlands Road in the inside lane of travel. LAKELAND, FL (January 30, 2020) | The third Annual Black History Festival will take place Saturday, February 15^th at Jackson Park (1130 Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue) from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.  Join the community for a fun-filled, family-friendly day that will include performances, food, and craft vendors! City of Lakeland staff from the Parks & Recreation Department will be on-hand giving away free plants while supplies last. DJ King will set the groove while individuals, dance groups and cheerleaders entertain the crowd during the event.
