City News Blog: CSX Corporation Working On Lakeland Area Railroad Crossings Downtown Lakeland Impacted

LAKELAND, FL (August 27, 2025) — CSX is continuing vital infrastructure upgrades at several railroad crossings throughout Lakeland. These improvements are part of the company’s ongoing efforts to enhance safety and ensure the reliability of its rail network. The City of Lakeland was notified last night of additional crossing closures that will impact the downtown area.

Each affected crossing will be closed for approximately three days to allow crews to complete necessary repairs, including track replacement, repaving, and time for asphalt curing. Crossings will reopen once it is safe for traffic to pass.

Scheduled Crossing Closures Include:

Impacted Crossings                               Start Date                            Estimated End Date

Kentucky Avenue                                August 27, 2025                      August 30, 2025

Massachusetts Avenue                       August 27, 2025                      August 30, 2025

Tennessee Avenue                              August 27, 2025                      August 27, 2025

Additional Notice – Sikes Boulevard:

There will be intermittent closures on Sikes Boulevard as a specialized piece of equipment, known as a regulator, passes over the railroad bridge. This equipment disperses gravel during operation, which poses a safety risk to vehicles below. As a precaution, CSX will temporarily close Sikes Boulevard under the bridge while the regulator is in use. A full flagging operation will take place this evening, Wednesday, August 27, from 7:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m.

Important Reminders for Drivers:

  • Use alternate routes where possible
  • Follow posted detour signs
  • Drive with caution around construction areas

A map of all scheduled closures can be found here: CSX Closure Map. For questions or to report issues related to public railroad crossings, please contact the CSX Public Safety Coordination Center at 1-800-232-0144 or email TellCSX@csx.com.
