LAKELAND, FL (April 27, 2022) | An emergency sewer repair will start immediately along Lake Avenue just south of Main Street, in front of the Texas Cattle Company restaurant.  City of Lakeland Wastewater crews are at the location now prepping to start work. At this time, the exact detail of what is causing the issue is unknown and crews will need to dig up the sewer to find what is causing the blockage.

LAKELAND, FL (April 14, 2022) - The construction for a new roundabout at the intersection of State Road 572 (Drane Field Road) and Don Emerson Drive is slated to start May 1, 2022.  The single lane roundabout is being constructed to accommodate the traffic demand at this intersection which serves as the primary access to the Lakeland Regional Airport and the Publix Super Markets corporate offices.  The completed project will include drainage, lighting, and landscape improvements within the scope of work.  

LAKELAND, FL (April 14, 2022) | City Manager Shawn Sherrouse has appointed Mike Beckham as Interim General Manager of Lakeland Electric, effective April 14, 2022. Recent Lakeland Electric General Manager Joel Ivy accepted a position with Lubbock Power & Light. Ivy will oversee the Texas municipal utility starting May 2022.  Sherrouse said, “As Lakeland Electric’s Assistant General Manager, Mike is intimately familiar with the responsibilities of the position and has significant experience in the variety of services that the utility provides.”

LAKELAND, FL (April 6, 2022) | The City of Lakeland was recently awarded a $500,000 grant from the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) to expand the Intersection Avoidance Safety Program (ICASP) to include 25 additional high-impact intersections.  The system has sensors that measure the speed of a vehicle and its distance from the intersection. It then predicts whether the driver is going to run the red light or be clear of the intersection in time.

LAKELAND, FL (April 4, 2022) | The City of Lakeland Parks & Recreation Department is adding Cultural Arts to its name.  Yes, starting April 4^th, the Department will be Parks, Recreation & Cultural Arts.  The addition of Cultural Arts to the Department not only recognizes programming, partnerships, and green spaces but it also highlights the adaptability of these spaces going forward.  Recreation and library needs have changed over the years to include cultural arts.

LAKELAND, FL (March 24, 2022) | The City of Lakeland invites you to join us for First Light Yoga in Hollis Garden. The Parks & Recreation Department has teamed up with yoga studios in the community to provide a series of free yoga classes in one of Lakeland’s most serene locations. Participants are recommended to bring their own yoga mat and wear comfortable clothing. Minors must be at least 14 years of age to participate and be accompanied by a parent or guardian. The first yoga session at Hollis Garden will feature Yoga Pointe leading the class on Saturday, April 9^th at 9 a.m.  Registration will be the day of the event at 8:30 a.m.
