Long-range planning is one of the most important activities of the City of Lakeland’s Community & Economic Development department. Every day, we experience the results of plans enacted decades ago. What we do now will determine what living, working, and commuting in Lakeland looks like in the decades to come.
Comprehensive planning takes a long view to ensure we have adequate housing choices, clean air, water, green spaces, roads, and much more. Planners look at population projections, development trends, and infrastructure assessments and align them with community visions to protect quality of life and preserve special places for the City’s residents.
The Community & Economic Development department works closely with other City departments as well as many regional agencies and planning organizations to plan for the future. Each of our partners has a unique role in shaping Lakeland’s future.
