Guy LaLonde Jr. serves as City Commissioner for the Northwest District for the City of Lakeland, Florida. A United States Navy veteran, business owner, and community leader, he brings decades of leadership experience in business operations, financial management, and public service.
Born and raised in New Hampshire, Guy moved to Lakeland in the 1980s and proudly made the city his home. He and his wife Tonya are the parents of seven children and grandparents to three grandchildren. Faith, family, and service have remained central to his life and leadership.
Guy’s commitment to service began with the United States Navy and Naval Reserve, where he served as a Boatswain’s Mate Third Class (BM3). He was assigned to Mine Division 125, supporting mine countermeasure operations during the early stages of Operation Earnest Will during the Tanker Wars of the 1980s. His unit deployed to the Persian Gulf, where their mission was to locate and neutralize naval mines to ensure safe passage for U.S. and allied vessels through critical international shipping lanes. Guy and his fellow sailors were transported to the region aboard the USS Raleigh (LPD-1). During his Naval Reserve service he also served with Naval Cargo Handling Battalion Detachment E-108 out of Tampa, supporting military logistics and cargo operations.
Following his military service, Guy built a long career in the private sector, including more than 30 years with Publix Supermarkets, where he held leadership roles managing large teams and complex retail operations. He later founded two Lakeland-based businesses, Lakeland Moonwalk of Polk County, Inc. and Under One Tent Events, Inc., which provide event infrastructure and services throughout Central Florida.
In 2024, Guy answered a call to serve his community when he was elected City Commissioner for Lakeland’s Northwest District. In this role he helps provide legislative direction, fiscal oversight, and long-term planning for the City of Lakeland.
Commissioner LaLonde serves on the Legislative Committee, Municipal Boards and Committees, and the Utility Committee. He also represents the City of Lakeland on several regional organizations including the Lakeland Area Mass Transit District, Polk Transit Authority, Transportation Planning Organization, Ridge League of Cities, and the Homeless Coalition of Polk County Continuum of Care Governance Board. Earlier in his term he also served on the Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA).
Commissioner LaLonde remains active in the community and currently serves as Board Chair for KidsPACK, an organization that helps provide weekend food for thousands of children across Polk and Hillsborough counties. He previously served on the Polk County Housing Finance Authority and has supported numerous community organizations including Relay for Life, Special Olympics, United Way initiatives, and Central Florida Speech & Hearing.
