CycleMania | Celebrating Bicycles, Pedestrian Safety and Mass Transit Munn Park on October 28 - City News Blog

LAKELAND, FL (September 27, 2023) | Florida is celebrating Mobility Week from October 27-November 4, 2023.  The City of Lakeland invites you to kickoff Mobility Week at CycleMania, Saturday, October 28 from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. at Munn Park.  This family friendly event celebrates bicycles, pedestrian safety, and mass-transit.

Mobility Week is a cooperative effort with partner agencies promoting awareness of safe, multimodal transportation choices.  The City of Lakeland is hosting CycleMania with our partners at the Citrus Connection, FDOT, Lakeland Police Department, Bike Buddies, Polk County School Board, and LeRoy’s Bike Works.  Festivities will begin with a community bike ride that will leave from Munn Park, circle Lake Morton, and return to Munn Park.  The community bike ride will be at party pace and families are encouraged to attend.  The ride will be led by the Lakeland Police Department’s bicycle brigade.

CycleMania will have a bike rodeo/obstacle course set up in Munn Park for the little ones, including balance bikes for those that haven’t quite mastered the art of bike riding. There will be give-a-ways, t-shirts, and fun activities for those that attend.  Learn more about multimodal transportation including the Safe Routes initiative. Agencies and schools are devoting increased attention to pedestrian and bicycle safety as part of Safe Routes. A successful program integrates safety, traffic relief, health, environmental awareness, and physical activity.  Bike Buddies will be in attendance to share their program that teams a law enforcement officer with a young student in a cycle centric mentor program.  LeRoy’s Bike Works will be on hand with merchandise and assist with any minor bike repairs. Remember to follow the rules of the road and we look forward to seeing you at CycleMania on October 28, 2023.
