2026-2027 Lakeland Youth Council

The Lakeland City Commission invites you to be part of the Lakeland Youth Council! This is your opportunity to weigh in on issues that matter to you and your peers.

The Youth Council offers a platform for students like you to voice your concerns and ideas while discussing community issues and services that impact your daily life. You'll be part of a team that makes recommendations to the City Commission, helping influence decisions and shape the future of Lakeland.

Comprised of up to 15 students, the Mayor and City Commission will handpick Youth Council members through a nomination and approval process. Each member of the Commission nominates two students, with an additional member nominated to reach the 15-member goal. Commissioner Stephanie Madden will serve as your liaison, ensuring your ideas, efforts, and contributions are continually communicated to the City Commission. 

The only requirements? You must be a resident of Lakeland living within the city limits and actively enrolled in 8th grade during the 2026-2027 school year.

Once selected, you'll be invited to a mandatory retreat to meet your fellow council members and prepare for your role. Members will also be officially sworn in at a City Commission meeting, making this a meaningful and memorable experience.
