NOTICE OF PROPOSED MORATORIUM ON DATA CENTERS AND LARGE LOAD CUSTOMERS
The City Commission of the City of Lakeland, Florida proposes to adopt the following ordinance:
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF LAKELAND, FLORIDA RELATED TO DATA CENTERS AND LARGE LOAD CUSTOMERS; ESTABLISHING A TEMPORARY MORATORIUM ON THE ACCEPTANCE, PROCESSING, REVIEW AND APPROVAL OF APPLICATIONS FOR DEVELOPMENT PERMITS, DEVELOPMENT ORDERS AND OTHER APPROVALS RELATED TO DATA CENTERS AND LARGE LOAD CUSTOMERS; DIRECTING THE REVIEW AND DEVELOPMENT OF APPROPRIATE AMENDMENTS TO THE CITY OF LAKELAND LAND DEVELOPMENT CODE, COMPREHENSIVE PLAN AND OTHER REGULATIONS RELATING TO DATA CENTERS AND LARGE LOAD CUSTOMERS; ESTABLISHING THE DURATION OF THE MORATORIUM; MAKING FINDINGS; PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY; PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
A public hearing on the ordinance will be held on July 6, 2026 at 9:00 a.m., or as soon thereafter as the matter may be heard, in the City Commission Chamber at City Hall, 228 S. Massachusetts Avenue, Lakeland, Florida 33801.
INTERESTED PERSONS may inspect such proposed ordinance at the City Attorney's Office in City Hall, 228 S. Massachusetts Avenue, Lakeland, Florida 33801, and may appear and be heard at the meeting with respect to the proposed ordinance. Anyone deciding to appeal a decision by the City Commission on the above subject matter at this hearing will need a record of the proceedings and, for purposes of that appeal, may need to ensure that a verbatim record of the proceedings is made, including the testimony and evidence upon which the appeal is to be made.
