Vision

Our vision is to create a transportation system that ensures zero fatalities and severe injuries, making our city's streets safe, accessible, and enjoyable for pedestrians, cyclists, motorists, and public transit users alike. We strive to foster a culture of responsibility, respect, and mutual consideration among all road users.

Goal

Eliminate Fatal and Serious Injury Crashes in Lakeland by 2040.

The Vision Zero Action Plan is a comprehensive strategy to eliminate all traffic-related fatalities and severe life-altering injuries in Lakeland. This plan centers on the principle that no loss of life or serious injuries is acceptable on our streets, and it prioritizes safety, equity, and sustainable mobility for all road users.

Objectives

  • Implement infrastructure improvements and safety measures to mitigate risks and enhance road safety.
  • Prioritize equity and ensure that vulnerable road users, such as children, the elderly, and people with disabilities, have equal access to safe streets.
  • Foster public awareness and education to promote safe behaviors and responsible road use.
  • Collaborate with community stakeholders, government agencies, and law enforcement to jointly work towards our shared goal of zero traffic fatalities and severe injuries.

Vision Zero Dashboard

The City of Lakeland Vision Zero dashboard is a webpage designed to provide the public with a comprehensive overview of key road safety metrics and progress toward achieving the stated goals of the City’s Vision Zero Action Plan. The Vision Zero dashboard includes Crash data, fatality and injury rates over time, an overview of the high-injury network, safety performance indicators and charts and graphs showing progress toward the City’s Vision Zero goals.

The purpose of the Vision Zero dashboard is to:

  • Monitor Progress: The dashboard allows city officials, policymakers, and the public to track the progress of road safety projects and initiatives and assess the effectiveness of various interventions. It provides insights into whether the number of traffic fatalities and severe injuries is decreasing over time, helping to gauge the success of the Vision Zero program.
  • Engage the Public: Making road safety data accessible and easy to understand encourages public engagement and participation. Citizens can access the dashboard to stay informed about road safety outcomes and advocate for further action or changes in their communities.
  • Transparency and Accountability: The dashboard promotes transparency in the Vision Zero initiative by openly sharing road safety data and progress reports. It holds authorities accountable for their commitment to reducing traffic-related fatalities and injuries.
