LAKELAND, FL (August 27, 2020) | The City of Lakeland recently purchased an aquatic plant harvester built by Inland Lake Harvesters, Inc. of Burlington, Wisconsin and we are looking to the public to help name the machine. Laurie Smith, Manager of Lakes & Stormwater said, “Technically the harvester is a boat, registered as a vessel with the State of Florida so we need a clever name for our new boat that also happens to remove invasive aquatic vegetation.”

The organizing committee has obvious concerns regarding the pandemic and the unknowns of what impacts the virus may have going forward.

LAKELAND, FL (August 21, 2020) | The City of Lakeland in partnership with Bonnet Springs Park (a non-profit organization) will be submitting an application to the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity for a Florida General Infrastructure Program Mitigation Grant (CDBG-MIT) on September 14, 2020.
LAKELAND, FL (August 21, 2020) | More than 5,100 Lakelanders rose to the challenge of keeping plastic bags out of their blue recycling carts. As a part of Lakeland’s Bag-Free Recycling initiative, homes serviced by the City of Lakeland’s Solid Waste and Recycling Division received a mailing describing the damage caused by bagged recyclables and plastic film in recycling containers. Residents were challenged to place a sticker on their recycling cart to show their commitment to keeping bagged recyclables and plastic wrapping out of their cart.
