LAKELAND, FL (April 23, 2020) | Site work has begun on Summit Consulting’s new eight-story, 135,000 square foot office building located at 117 N. Massachusetts Avenue in downtown Lakeland. Summit purchased this 1.2-acre Lake Mirror property from the City of Lakeland on March 3^rd of this year after completing an extended due diligence period.  

LAKELAND, FL (April 23, 2020) | Lakeland was recently named a 2019 Tree City USA by the Arbor Day Foundation in honor of its commitment to effective urban forest management.  Lakeland achieved Tree City USA recognition by meeting the program’s four requirements: a tree board or department, a tree care ordinance, an annual community forestry budget of at least $2 per capita and an Arbor Day observance and proclamation.

LAKELAND, FL (April 17, 2020) | As Lakeland Regional Health (LRH) continues to monitor and respond to the COVID-19 pandemic, the not-for-profit health system is pleased to collaborate with the City of Lakeland to open the City’s first COVID-19 Drive-Thru Testing Center at the RP Funding Center, beginning Monday, April 20, 2020.

LAKELAND, FL (April 10, 2020) - Contractors working for the City of Lakeland will begin milling and resurfacing portions of the Lake Hollingsworth multi-use path beginning April 15th, 2020. The path is currently closed due to the social distancing impacts of the coronavirus. Those traveling around Lake Hollingsworth Drive should expect minor delays during this work. This work is expected to take four days to complete weather permitting.  

LAKELAND, FL (April 10, 2020) | A series of existing sewer manholes in the Lakeland downtown area are no longer serviceable for maintenance or rehabilitation, and they will be replaced starting on April 20^th. City crews will begin the manhole replacement on Massachusetts Avenue (adjacent to City Hall) on April 20^th. At this location, traffic will be rerouted around the work zone and one lane of travel will be open in each direction. 

LAKELAND, FL (April 9, 2020) | Commissioner Scott Franklin was recently contacted by one of his insurance clients who wanted to donate personal protective equipment to first responders and public health agencies. Franklin, acting as a conduit, contacted organizations within the Lakeland community to secure the PPE. Tampa Bay Fisheries, Inc.​, a local food manufacturing company with locations in Dover and Plant City was able to secure 40,000 surgical masks and 75,000 nitrile gloves that they have donated to local city and county front-line employees.
