High School Police Academy

APPLICATIONS HAVE CLOSE FOR THE 2026 SESSION.

CAMP DATES:  JULY 27 - JULY 31

LOCATION:  LPD Training Center - 3131 Centurian Drive

The Lakeland Police Department is looking for a few good applicants to participate in a one-week, hands-on course for young people who are interested in a career in law enforcement or students who would like to find out more about the Lakeland Police Department.

This is a one week, highly interactive program, allows high school students and college freshman a ‘behind the scenes’ look at what a career in law enforcement is all about. Spots will be limited and acceptance into the program will be based on the below criteria and qualifications.

Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 15 -18 years of age.
  • No Arrests
  • No out-of-school suspensions in the last year
  • Must maintain a “C” average or better
  • Must be willing to participate in all activities
  • Must be interested in a career in law enforcement
  • Receive parental or legal guardian approval
  • Complete and submit the application packet by mail or email.

Topics to be covered:
Team Building, Crime Scene Investigation, Criminal Investigation, Traffic Stops, Building Searches, Use of Protective Action, Taser and Body Worn Camera (BWC) Use, Law Enforcement Response to Active Shooters, Firearms Safety/Use and First Aid, demonstrations from various specialty units, and the responsibilities of wearing the badge.
